A Fundamental Introduction To Search Engines

Metro train networks are arguably the best analogy to use for someone trying to imagine what the World Wide Web is like with its enormous range of web pages and documents distributed being stations or stops. Just like the trains working their way amongst the network of stops using the tracks to guide them, the search engines use their equivalent method referred to as links. This vast network of documents is then navigated by specially designed automated robots referred to as “spiders” or “crawlers” which then can access material directed by the search engines. All of the data gathered by these robots can then by analysed. The commonly used term for this process is “information retrieval” and the term “hits” describes the findings themselves.
